Gold and silver prices rose in early trade on Monday, December 29, 2025, with both metals hitting fresh highs on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). Silver crossed Rs 2.5 lakh per kg for the first time, while gold stayed close to the Rs 1.40 lakh mark per 10 grams.
Gold futures for the February 5, 2026 contract opened slightly lower but soon moved up and touched a new lifetime high near Rs 1,40,444 per 10 grams. The contract was later seen trading around Rs 1,40,400, up about 0.1{3ed7819c3563dca85364f9c966d48c284cd3d43c23a196a6bbb99b5b9eebb247} on the day. Recent trading has also seen gold print an intraday peak close to Rs 1,40,465 in the previous session.
MCX gold for April 2026 was also higher in early trade, moving above Rs 1,44,000 per 10 grams.

Silver futures on MCX surged at the open and later hit a new all-time high of Rs 2,54,174 per kg, after crossing Rs 2.5 lakh per kg during the session. Market trackers noted the March silver contract was up sharply in early trade as the rally extended into another session.
A market analyst said silver has been moving faster than gold in this phase, and traders are watching the Rs 2,50,000 level closely, with near-term support seen around the Rs 2,40,000–Rs 2,35,000 band if prices cool.
In overseas trade, gold was slightly lower, with spot prices hovering near the mid-$4,500 per ounce area in early hours.
In Gurgaon, 24-carat gold was quoted at about Rs 1,41,860 per 10 grams, while 22-carat gold was around Rs 1,30,050 per 10 grams.
Silver price in Gurgaon was quoted at around Rs 2,58,000 per kg.
Across major cities, bullion rates were also elevated. Gold in Delhi was quoted near Rs 1,41,860 per 10 grams for 24-carat and around Rs 1,30,005 for 22-carat. Silver in Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata was near Rs 2,58,000 per kg, while Chennai was higher at around Rs 2,81,000 per kg.
